“If you know and love Crow Johnson-as I do- this new collection of Crow’s songs will be as welcome as a rain in West Texas. If Crow is a new experience for you, prepare to fall in love. Sometimes she struts, but her music always celebrates human connection. With a guitar, an unexpected line from a 5-string fiddle or a gorgeous bit of harmony, Crow embraces us with her loving spirit. Lower the lights, pour yourself some wine and listen”.—Tom Paxton 1995 on the album Painting Stories ‘Cross the Sky
“These marvelous stories are about everyday people leading not so everyday lives. Crow leads you through a labyrinth of her own brand of Southern Gothic writing that’s as real as the day is long.” —Lucinda Williams 2012 on the publication of Flights of Fancy- Short Stories, Essays, Novella, and Other Pieces
“Hearsay is a radiant song collection from one of my favorite singer-songwriters. I think this is Crow Johnson’s best work ever, and that’s saying a lot. These songs are spiritual and sexy, innocent and wise, simple and sophisticated. The arrangements are perfect as far as I can discern — every note in service to the remarkable lyrics and the gorgeous voice that delivers them.”— Bob Franke 2002 review of the album Hearsay.
