Hey Everyone,
How many times have you recorded and replayed “Hi, you’ve reached me. Sorry, I’m not available. Leave your message at the sound of the beep”? After a half-dozen tries, you feel like you’re speaking gibberish.
That’s what I’ve been doing this week, working on a song for my upcoming album, Auntie Crow’s Wildest Dream. In the screenshot above, each track is a bit different and an attempt to get it “right”. Ha Ha! There’s rhythm, enunciation, and pitch to consider…oh, yes, and MEANING. How easy it is to overlook simply telling the story—because that’s what it’s about, isn’t it?
I just realized the irony of the take-home line of the song, which was written with Janet Feld! Everything Shows Up On Time.
So, I will find a sassy hat, put on my wild-woman earrings, a dab of perfume, and give it a few more tries with the message in mind! And a sticky note on the microphone saying, “It’s all about connection, not perfection, Crow!”
Possum Holler, our home and garden in the woods, will host a bunch of lily fanatics this weekend to oooh and ahh, ask questions, have a picnic, and snap pictures of Arthur’s flowers.
This Week’s Songwriting Tip
If your song’s melody is giving you déjà vu, don’t panic, you’re probably onto something. Try this quick experiment to twist it into something uniquely yours.

Virtual hugs and wishes,
Auntie Crow
