I’m excited to tell you about two mini-concerts Janet Feld and I performed at Kerrville Music Festival this May, in the hill country of Texas. Initially, we were invited to do one show at Camp Cuisine, but it went so well that we were invited to do an encore performance at the Crow’s Nest annex.
Why is this so exciting? Well, let me explain. During all the years my husband and I were caring for our declining parents, I put my music away and thought it was a permanent decision. But friends kept telling me, “You are never a former musician. Once a musician, it’s forever.”
For the last two and a half years, Janet Feld and I have been having a song co-writing appointment on Zoom each week. It has been a blast! And nudged me back into playing and writing music, which has been the joy of my life. That ship hadn’t left the dock after all.
So this year’s Kerrville was our first opportunity to get together and play our music for folks! And there is no better audience in the world than Kerrverts, who are mostly brilliant songwriters themselves. It felt like putting on an old coat that I love.
We call our writing “Grits and Bagels” since I live in Arkansas and Janet is Jewish and lives in Boston, MA. As she says my line, “Put on your old boots and meet me in the meadow,” would have been “Put on your crocks and meet me at the deli” if she’d initiated it.
I’m doing a new recording. The working title is Auntie Crow’s Wildest Dream, and it really is just that. Rush Beesley, who produced my album Picture the Thought in 1983, has shown up on a white horse to lead the project. Talk about FUN. BIG FUN!!
Janet, who is a guitar teacher deluxe (at the festival and online), joined me for a sold-out workshop I taught for songwriters. But I’ll tell you all about that next week….
Thanks for your time and caring; they mean the world.
Hugs,
Auntie Crow ♥️ 🐦⬛
